Continental opens door to resumption of Rota flights

In his letter to Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Cape Air/Continental Connections vice president Andrew Bonney said they will discuss the possible resumption of the Rota service while their aircraft are undergoing maintenance inspections in the U.S.

Bonney assured Manglona that he will relay to the Continental Airlines main headquarters in Houston, Texas the CNMI’s interest to form a partnership with the airline in an effort to increase demand for Rota air seats.

“While this maintenance event must happen, Cape Air appreciates your outreach to discuss what we can do to partner on a resumption of Rota service in spring 2011 when both aircraft return to Micronesia,” Bonney told Manglona.

Suspending the Rota service, Bonney said, “was a very difficult decision.”

But he said their aircraft required maintenance.

Manglona, Ind.-Rota, earlier asked Continental to reconsider its decision to suspend the air service.

He  proposed a partnership in which Rota will collaborate with the Marianas Visitors Authority to come up with proper marketing and promotion packages to increase the island’s flight demand.
