STAR Marianas Air issued the following statement Monday:
“We are aware of images currently circulating on social media showing smoke near the landing gear of one of our aircraft.
“Earlier today on Tinian, one of our single-engine Cherokee Six aircraft experienced a minor brake overheat during taxi while the aircraft was on the ground. This overheat resulted in a localized fire on the fiberglass wheel covering, which produced the visible smoke seen in the photos.
“We want to reassure our passengers and the community that this was strictly a ground incident. “All passengers and crew are entirely safe, and there were zero injuries.
“The situation was quickly and safely contained. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Commonwealth Ports Authority first responders for their immediate and professional assistance on the scene.
“Safety remains the absolute highest priority at STAR Marianas Air. The aircraft has been removed from service and secured, and our maintenance team is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the brake overheat. We appreciate the swift action of the first responders and the patience of our passengers.”
