Guam contains diversity like few places on earth for such a small landmass – towering limestone cliffs, coral outcroppings, volcanic clay, jungle rivers, savannahs and mountains can make it as beautiful as it is difficult.
The Guam Extreme Adventure Race disciplines include trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, swimming, orienteering and teamwork.
GEAR 10 is set for May 30, starting at 4 a.m.– the start location will be announced to participants at the mandatory race briefing and GEAR check on Saturday, May 29 at 2:30 p.m.
Registration is now open with online registration available at www.guamextreme.com or registration forms can be picked up at Hornet Sports in Tamuning.
Early bird registration deadline is Friday, April 30 and registration will close on Friday, May 14. A meeting for interested racers will be held on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m., for a race overview and Q&A session.
This adventure race follows the basic disciplines of adventure racing in the 24 hour format: mountain biking, kayaking (ocean and river), navigation, trekking, coasteering or staying within 30 feet of the ocean at all times, swimming (with fins) and teamwork. The race course is not revealed to racers until one hour prior to the race start, with the start location provided only 12 hours prior to go time.
Completion times for championship teams are expected to be within the 14 -16 hour range; certain course segments may be altered according to safety and conditions as the race progresses.
