Dive shop manager assaulted, robbed

Department of Public Safety acting spokesman and Crime Stoppers Coordinator PO2 Jason Tarkong said the 57-year-old victim, a Japanese national, was walking toward his front door of Blue Sea Sports Dive Shop in Susupe, when he was suddenly attacked from behind.

“The suspect struck the victim on his face and the back of his leg with a wooden stick.  The suspect grabbed the victim’s bag containing [$100] and a cell phone,” Tarkong said.

The victim covered his face to protect himself.

The incident occurred at about 8:33 p.m., two Fridays ago.

The suspect  fled north, scaled the fence by Saipan Community School, and continued running north toward Susupe Regional Park, police said.

Tarkong said the victim refused to be treated by medics and transported to the hospital for further treatment even though he had swollen lips and a bruised right leg.

Tarkong said the suspect was a male, wearing black clothing.

“A wooden stick was left at the scene and is believed to be the weapon used to strike the victim,” Tarkong said.
