The Echo Company, which is also known as Four-Four Dooze or Go for Broke, had over 70 members deployed to Kuwait in July 2008.
Most of them have returned to Saipan in August last year, but some of them arrived later.
VFW Post 3457 Cmdr. Larry Deleon Guerrero said they planned to welcome the troops sometime in November but everybody was busy with the elections and other concerns.
“We also wanted them to have time to reunite and spend more time with their families first,” Deleon Guerrero said.
The Echo Company was the first troop that the VFW Post 3457 adopted, but Deleon Guerrero said they are planning to adopt other units.
“The adopt-a-unit program is one of the programs of the VFW Posts,” Deleon Guerrero said.
The VFW, he added, can help serve as a link to the families of servicemembers whenever they are deployed.
1Lt. Mike Murphy, Echo Company executive officer, said the “VFW fights for the soldiers in the U.S. Congress to get the things they deserve.”
Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos joined the event to welcome the troops to the VWF canteen.
“On behalf of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and the people of the CNMI, I welcome all of you. Thank you for the services and thank God you are all out of harm’s way,” Inos said.
