Leo Factor’s two straight successful lay ups, plus a free throw shot inched Sunset away for a five-point lead.
Sunrise’s George Masga received the inbound and went straight ahead to the basket and picked up a foul from Joe Tudela. He made two free throws to move Sunrise closer.
However, the final minute went by with Sunrise’s basket remaining empty.
Meanwhile, Sunset’s Cuki Alvarez intercepted a pass from the back court, dribbled back for the basket, got a desperate foul from Sunrise defender on his way up and made the basket.
He sank the penalty shot to complete the three-point play, and the time ran out for Sunrise to recover.
Yosh Gabaldon blasted from behind the arc and added a pair of two-pointer to help Sunrise establish the lead in the first quarter.
Warren Villegas hit two consecutive three-points and George Masga collected fouls to protect Sunrise’s lead in the second quarter.
Gabaldon fired his second three-pointer to compensate for his team mates’ waning offensive to keep Sunrise stay in front in the third quarter.
While Sunrise kept missing shots in the final few minutes of the game, Ebuen and Factor rampaged with eight points apiece.
Factor’s two-pointers went handy and Sunset killed time while defending their five-point lead to secure their 80-75 win.
