Its chairman, Ramon B. Camacho, said they need budgetary allocation for their programs and operation.
Among their programs, he said, is the Neighborhood Watch Task Force which aims for village revitalization and crime prevention.
Camacho said the council and the mayor’s office should be allowed to have a separate budget for operation and village-level programs, projects and activities.
The council is also asking the Saipan and Northern Islands legislative delegation to pass House Bill 17-21 which allows for the establishment of a large-scale, multi-year cockfight arena.
Rep. Ray N. Yumul, R-Saipan, introduced the bill.
Camacho said this measure could “reverse the present economic debacle that Saipan is facing now.”
He said Saipan has lost much of its luster and appeal, and its economy requires “life support in order to prod its economic engine back to normalcy.”
“We encourage the [delegation] to engage in thoughtful and meaningful dialogue and deliberation, and set aside any parochial and provincial inclinations by supporting passage of this needed economic rescue plan,” Camacho said.
