The Academic Bee Challenge is a contest whose aim is to “establish and promote friendly competition between the elementary schools, reinforce academic learning, and establish camaraderie between elementary and high school students.”
Each school’s team will be composed of five students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Students will have only three students at a time answering questions that were created by the National Honor Society. The other two students will serve as substitutes. Students will be quizzed on subjects ranging from core school subjects, like English, math, and science. Competition will be based on a points system. Teams will have a set amount of time to answer a question, and if they that question correctly, that team will receive points.
Coaches are advised to tabulate points alongside the official tabulators while they watch from the sidelines in order to maintain accuracy.
There will be three rounds of competition — the Easy, Medium, and Hard rounds. Questions in the Easy category will be from the elementary level, questions from the Medium category will be from the middle school level, and questions from the Hard category will be from the high school level.
The top three teams will be awarded with trophies and other prizes.
National Honor Society vice president Adeleyah Mojica says that “We’ve been preparing very hard for this competition. We are sure that it will be a great success!”
Sibylla Guerrero of San Antonio Elementary School says “this is a wonderful opportunity for students to extend and challenge themselves. This is the 1st time for San Antonio to compete in a while, but the kids are very excited.
They are nervous but ready to study hard, work hard, and do their best.”
