Federal court sentences supervised release violators

Nestor K. Taitano and Jesse Mafnas Babauta will surrender to the U.S. Marshals Service once the jail facilities where they will serve their sentences have been identified.

Designated Judge Robert J. Bryan    imposed a seven-month jail term on Taitano, who will also participate in substance abuse, educational and vocational rehabilitation programs.

If possible, the court said, Taitano should submit to mental health assessment and counseling. He will pay a $400 court assessment fee and $150 in restitution.

Taitano admitted using controlled substance and consuming alcohol while on probation.

Last November, Taitano was sentenced to 159 days for conspiracy to utter counterfeit obligations and securities, and for uttering counterfeit obligations and securities.

Babauta received a six-month jail sentence and was ordered to pay $10,441 as restitution to his victims after he stole checks and forged his boss’s signature.

Babauta will also pay a $100 court assessment fee.

Last March, Babauta was sentenced to 120 days of weekend detention for mail fraud, and was placed on three-year probation.
