Yano was nominated by President Johnson Toribiong to fill in the Ministry of States post after the president fired State Minister Sandra Pierantozzi earlier.
Yano served as Health Minister under former President Tommy Remengesau’s administration.
Yano during the hearing has vowed to devote his time fully to the Ministry.
One of the issues that came out in the hearing was whether Yano, who is a doctor will be able to dedicate his time as minister.
Yano told the panel members that if confirmed he will dedicate his time as state minister but that if time permits he would still wants to see and treat patients.
Another issue that was brought out during the hearing was the downsizing of the ministry to help save government funds.
Earlier five bureaus were created under the ministry, the senators wants to reduce the bureaus to get rid of unnecessary spending.
The panel will be coming out with a resolution today to endorse the appointment of Yano.
A session will be conducted today and the resolution is expected to be taken up for a vote.
Yano has also been serving as an advisor for Toribiong during the Compact Free Association continuance of funds review.
