More medals for NMI athletics

Jacque Wonenberg finished the day with the most medals for the CNMI team, earning a total of four gold medals and one silver. Wonenberg placed first in the women’s triple jump as well as the 400 meter hurdles.

Jacque received one silver from the women’s javelin throw, coming two meters short behind Palau’s Maleah Tangadik.

Yvonne Bennett followed Wonenberg with four medals, earning gold in the women’s 200 meter sprint and 400 meter sprint. Yvonne Bennett was the only CNMI representative who placed in top three of those events.

Yvonne’s twin, Yvette Bennett, received another set of gold medals from the women’s 4×100 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay. Both sisters participated in the relays along with Jacque Wonenberg as part of the CNMI team. Reylynn Sapong joined the three in the 4×100 event, while Lia Rangamar took part in the 4×400.

Mamiko Oshima-Berger continued strong after making first place in the women’s 5k meter run, finishing in 21:11.62. Nichole Layson from Guam came in second, trailing Berger by 6 seconds.

In the men’s division, CNMI’s Clayton Kenty managed to earn himself one silver and one bronze medal. Fellow athlete Nick Gross also received a silver medal after placing second in the men’s javelin throw.

Kenty finished second in the men’s 400 meter hurdles and third in the 110 meter hurdles.
