Good turnout for free computer classes at library

With the good turnout of enrollees, the two computer instructors, Joeten-Kiyu Information Technology Center coordinator Roy Rechebei and ITC assistant Joey Songsong, had to adjust and move the schedules.

The instructors classify the students according to their basic computer knowledge so that everyone will work at the same pace and level during the instruction hours.

The classes for the basic computer learning as well as the advanced courses have been filled already.

The basic computer classes include lessons on the basic use of computers.

Beginners are taught how to explore the Internet, how to navigate with the mouse, how to save or print documents, and how to operate and maintain the computers

Areas covered in the advanced courses are Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office operations, including Word and Excel applications.

“Offering free computer classes to interested individuals is one of our ways of reaching out to the community. I cannot stress it enough that we want everybody to visit the library and make use of the facility and resources available,” Gonzales said.

He said knowledge in computer operations can help anyone in their career advancement.

The free computer classes are one of the programs offered by the library’s Summer Reading and Cultural Fair which runs from June 22 to Aug. 20, 2010.
