Joeten-Kiyu library’s extended hours get positive feedback

The library’s regular hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but for the past two Wednesdays, the library opened at 11 a.m. and extended its operation hours until 7 p.m.

Library executive director John O. Gonzales told the Variety yesterday that they received positive feedback on the extended hours.

“We get a lot of patrons who appreciated our effort to give them access and more time to use the library facilities,” Gonzales said.

The extended library hours is still a pilot project but if the public shows interest, Gonzales said they will make it a permanent schedule.

He said after two more Wednesdays, they will review the feedback sheets dropped by patrons into the drop box near the library’s entrance to see if they will continue with the extended hours.

“We have been getting more positive feedback, and if necessary, we may add another day each week to extend the operation hours but that will be under review yet,” Gonzales said.

The decision to extend or adjust the operation hours at the library came following several requests for them to stay open until late to give way to patrons and library users who do not have time to come until after 5 p.m., like students and employees.

“We will continue to reach out to the community and try to fit into their schedules because we want everybody to come to the library,” Gonzales said.
