Radio Australia launches transmitter in Palau

This is the first FM broadcast of Radio Australia in Palau and also the first link in the North Pacific.

Koror link joins other FM broadcasts in the Pacific centers of Port Moresby and Lae in Papua New Guinea, Honiara in Solomon Islands, Port Vila and Santo in Vanuatu, Apia in Samoa, Nuku’alofa in Tonga, Rarotonga in Cook Islands, and Tarawa in Kiribati.

Murray Green, Director of Australian Broadcasting Corporation in an interview said that Radio Australia wants a presence in the North Pacific and the Micronesian Games is the most appropriate time to launch the services.

Green said the launching is made possible with cooperation with the Ministry of State and local Palau government radio Eco Paradise.

He added that the FM transmitter in Koror will be the first and the services will also be extended in other parts of the North Pacific.

President Johnson Toribiong during the launch on Friday night welcomed Radio Australia and said that an international media’s presence in Palau is a welcome addition.
