Sonia Siwa of the Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc. yesterday said this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Tokyo Tensuiren group, but only the third year for the Saipan Awaodori Team to perform.
The Japan and Saipan Awaodori teams will perform at 11 a.m. at Koblerville Elementary School, and in front of the DFS Galleria from 12 to 12:35 noon.
Siwa said the Awaodori teams will start dancing at 5:30 p.m. at the Fiesta Resort and Spa, and make their way to the parking space of Country House/Moby Dick Restaurant then proceed to Tony Roma’s/Capricciosa and finally to the Paseo de Marianas stage.
Siwa said there will be a cultural exchange program and local cultural dance performances before the dance procession will make its way to the street market and back to the stage.
The Saipan Awaodori Team has about 50 members from Koblerville, Tanapag and Gualo Rai. They will be using Oodo or big Japanese drums, and snare drums for their performance.
The Tokyo Tensuiren group includes over 20 members who will be using different instruments such as Kane Bell, Oodo and snare drums.
“We would like to invite everybody to be with us and witness another colorful and lively performance of the Tokyo Tensuiren group and the Saipan Awaodori Teams,” Siwa said.
This year’s major event sponsors are DFS Galleria, Docomo Pacific, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Kinpachi Japanese Restaurant and Furusato Restaurant.
