Norlina Jean Taitano, 20, is being held on the charges of attempted murder in the first degree, assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, disturbing the peace, reckless driving, and hit and run.
Taitano ran over Nelsin Anson Saimon who suffered injuries on both of his legs and on the lower portion of his torso, according to traffic investigator Joseph M. Magofna.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona Manglona retained the $50,000 cash bail imposed on Taitano who was remanded to custody of the Department of corrections after her initial appearance yesterday.
Assistant Attorney General Michael Evangelista represented the government while Taitano appeared without counsel.
Magofna said Saimon called the police at about 8:46 a.m., and reported an auto pedestrian incident in San Antonio by Sunrise Market.
Taitano was earlier involved in an auto collision on Beach Road by the San Antonio Market at about 7:37 a.m., police said.
Prior to this incident, Norlina and Saimon were having a domestic dispute, Magofna said.
Saimon decided to move to his sister’s house in Chalan Kanoa to avoid further dispute with the defendant, Magofna said.
Taitano’s mother later called Saimon to check on her daughter who was involved in an auto collision on Beach Road.
Saimon also thought that his son was with Taitano at the time of the accident, so he checked the crash scene, Magofna said.
After Taitano was interviewed by the police, she and Saimon headed to the defendant’s house.
Once they were there, Taitano told the victim to leave her.
To avoid argument, Saimon turned his back on Taitano who then threatened him, “I’m going to run you over with this car,” Magofna said.
Saimon started to run after he saw Taitano rushing back to her vehicle, a black Mitsubishi Montero, and driving toward him.
Taitano hit Saimon from behind, causing him to fall on the gravel road and land on his stomach.
Taitano continued to go forward causing her vehicle to run over Saimon. The defendant then sped out, leaving Saimon lying on the gravel road, Magofna said.
Saimon tried to get up but he could not feel his feet and was trying to catch his breath. He managed to crawl to Sunrise Market where he asked for help.
Saimon was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center.
Taitano was then arrested by the police at her residence in San Antonio, east of Sunrise Market.
