CUC hires technical manager for oil

CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said the hiring of William A.  Sword was in compliance with the federal stipulated orders.

Sword will get an annual salary of $135,000 for his two-year contract.

Muna said Sword, a professional engineer and land surveyor, will officially report to work on Monday.

Sword can also do other tasks that CUC normally contracts to other vendors, Muna added.

He said Sword will be tasked to inspect the oil and water tanks maintained by the CUC.

“I consider this as an investment. When we bring in professionals they are investments that result in general savings,” he said.

Sword is a civil engineering graduate of the University of Notre Dame du Lac, South Bend, Indiana, and holds a master of science degree in construction engineering management  from the Oregon State University.

From 2001 to 2010, he  served as a terminal manager and engineer for British Petroleum in American Samoa and was an adjunct professor of engineering at the American Samoa Community College.
