Public Health to kick off ‘Kung Flu Fighter’ campaign

Dubbed as the “Kung Flu Fighter,” the program is part of the  flu prevention initiative of the Flu Watch Committee through the Public Health & Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program.

Roxanne Diaz, Public Health program analyst, said the media campaign will start this month and ends in October.

The Kung Flu Fighter campaign will have a marching unit comprising six groups of participants during the Liberation parade, Diaz said.

The groups include Public Health staff and family members,  the Matua Riders and family members, Garapan Elementary School students and teachers, Trench Tech Fighters and family members, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting staff, Sparky the Mascot and Chiliboy Entertainment (Sound System and Videography).

There will be five vehicles and 12 motorcycles from the Matua Riders.

Diaz said they will present six mascots representing Kung Flu, hand sanitizer, soap, vaccine vial, nurse with syringe and face mask.

The mascots and participants will be dancing to the “Kung Fu Fighting” theme song by Carl Douglas and the new, locally produced “Flu WATCH Soundtrack.”

Also, during the parade, music was dubbed to include an “ACHOO!”

Whenever the “ACHOO!” comes on, the ARFF fire truck will spray the crowd with water to simulate a sneeze.

At every “ACHOO!” two reactions will be played out:

First, parade participants will each act out a Flu WATCH action  (e.g. cover mouth, mouth on sleeve, shout out “WATCH It!” etc. ), and second, the crowd will be hyped and signaled to scream out “WATCH IT!”

Diaz said the placards and banners on Flu WATCH, with a theme “Celebrating Kung Flu Fighters, Our Leaders of Tomorrow,” will be displayed during the parade.

She said  video footage will be taken and will be used for the Flu WATCH Music Video production.

Flu Watch giveaways such as Kung Flu Fighter, Flu Watch caps, bandanas, hand sanitizers, fliers and stickers will be distributed to the public during the parade.
