Reyes signed a plea agreement, admitting four counts of assault and battery.
The Attorney General’s Office charged Reyes, 23, with six counts of assault and battery, three counts of child abuse, and two counts of assault with dangerous weapon, when he slapped and threatened to kill his wife while brandishing a knife if she would not leave their residence on June 27, 2009.
During the same incident, the AGO said Reyes picked up his minor son and threw him across the room. Reyes also threw a container of betelnut spit into his child’s face, the AGO stated.
It added that Reyes then grabbed his son by the arm, and again threw him across the room.
Naraja placed Reyes on three years and seven months supervised probation for the remainder of his suspended sentence.
Reyes was required to pay a $500 fine within 24 months, $100 in court costs within 60 days and a probation fee of $360 payable within eight months. He will write a letter of apology to his victims, and will not consume or possess alcohol during the entire term of his probation. Reyes will undergo an evaluation and counseling at the Community Guidance Center for anger management, parenting classes, and alcohol abuse, and will perform 200 hours of community work service.
