Micro Games continues, CNMI beats Pohnpei in baseball

One of the ceremony’s highlights included a passing of the torch from Governor of Airai State Vicky Kanai to Koror State Governor Yoshitaka Adachi.

The torch originated from Airai, where it made its way to the Palau Community College Track and Field in Koror.

Olympian and weightlifting multi-gold medalist Elgin Elwais was the final torchbearer, as he lit the games cauldron at the ceremony.

Guam Governor Felix Camacho and CNMI Governor Benigno Fitial were also present in the event.

Having hosted the previous Micronesian Games in 2006, the CNMI took center stage first during the traditional parade of nations. They were led by sprinter and baseball player Tyrone Omar, who held the CNMI flag during the parade.

25 Koror State residents participated in the torch relay. Nearly 1,000 athletes attended the ceremony, with 135 present from the CNMI.

Around 2,000 spectators were also present in the event, which started at 3:30 pm and ended at 6:30 pm.
