Bureau of Public Safety Director Norvert H. Yano said the government is cash-strapped and cannot afford OT pay.
“Our needs were brought up to the Palau Olympic Committee but no funds were made available.” Yano said in an interview.
He said despite the lack of resources, police successfully performed their duties and responsibilities during the event.
He said this success was also due to the cooperation of the community.
According to Yano, each officer incurred 108 hours of overtime from the Micronesian Presidents Summit on July 30-31 to the closing ceremony for the Micronesian Games on Aug. 10.
