“We must not see this incident happening again,” she said, referring to the recent rape incident involving a student in Kagman.
While it should not be the school’s responsibility to ensure the student’s safety outside the campus, Sablan said the entire community, including the Department of Public Safety, should help each other in ensuring that criminal activities are prevented and those who committed crimes are arrested.
Last week, a 16-year-old student was raped in Kagman while on her way to school.
It was the fifth rape incident reported to DPS this year.
“This is a serious concern for everybody,” Sablan said.
When she heard about the incident in Kagman, she immediately visited the victim and her family.
She said she also asked DPS to dispatch patrol cars every morning while students are on their way to school.
