Youth organization stops minors from drinking

Paramount High Chief Ibbedul Yutaka M. Gibbons said this is the project of the youth he signed to monitor minors engaged in consumption of alcohol.

He said that if the group sees minors buying alcohol they will get the names and submit it to the office.

“They will get the names and submit to our office and we are the one dealing with them. We will discuss with them the law together with their parents.” Gibbons said in an interview.

He said that for the first offense is a warning and for the second and third offense will be imposition of fines but it depends on the seriousness of the violation.

Gibbons said the HOTL has earlier issued a traditional law prohibiting minors from drinking alcohol. But this is not yet being implemented as the Attorney General’s office has yet to response on the HOTL’s request to review and enforce the law.

“We ensured a traditional law prohibiting underage from drinking and we invited Attorney General if they can enforce the traditional law but no response yet.” Paramount chief said.

Gibbons noted that as the law is not yet approved, the youth organization has doing community program to monitor minors engaged in alcohol drinking.

Based on the Bureau of Public Safety’s (BPSs) report, underage drinking incidents exceeded adult cases.

Teenager ages 14 to 15 are usually involved in break-in of establishments and these crimes are mostly alcohol-related. They steal alcohol for their own consumption.
