Juvenile, man arrested for Kagman kidnap-rape

Camacho is being held on the charge of kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor, aggravated assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

Defendants Angel Jess Santos, 21, and Ivan Jones Castro, 33, who were arrested last June, have denied they kidnapped and raped the victim.

Santos and Castro are held on a $100,000 cash bail.

Yesterday, the hearing was sealed because one of the defendants was a juvenile.

The two defendants were remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and the Juvenile Detention Center after the hearing.

Assistant Attorney General Brian D. Gallagher is prosecuting the case.

Together with the rest of the criminal division’s prosecutors, Attorney General Edward T. Buckingham was also in the gallery during the court hearing.

Because of a conflict of interest, the court said the clerk of court will appoint counsel to represent Camacho.

Detective Melissa H. Bauleong stated in her affidavit that Santos wanted to cooperate and had provided information pertaining to the case.

On Aug. 2, Santos, through the advisement of his counsel, Joseph James Norita Camacho, signed a plea agreement, admitting that the defendant committed conspiracy to commit sexual assault.

The meeting took place at the Corrections facility.

“This agreement required [Santos] to give a complete, accurate, and truthful statement regarding his involvement in this case and the involvement of his co-conspirators,” Detective Bauleong said.

Santos said the initials of the juvenile’s name are “AJ” and not “BH”  as Santos  earlier told authorities.

Santos said  Camacho Jr. was the companion of the juvenile.

AJ and Camacho Jr. were smoking cigarettes at the back of CYC store in Kagman prior to the incident, Santos told the authorities.

Santos claimed it was AJ who invited him to follow them to go “pull” which Santos thought meant to “get” betelnuts, Bauleong said.

After he dropped home the dog food he brought from the store, Santos joined the other defendants.

Santos told police Castro was driving the dark-colored pick-up truck.

When the victim passed by the group, Santos said it was Camacho Jr. who took the driver seat, Castro was in the extra-cab seat while AJ was in the front passenger seat. Santos said he rode on the bed.

AJ punched the victim to the head after the victim ignored him while he was asking for the victim’s bag, Santos said.

“When AJ finally managed to put [the victim] into the truck, [AJ] closed the door and continued punching [the victim] on the face, head, body, and arms. [The victim] eventually lost consciousness and Camacho [Jr.] drove the truck down to Tank Beach,” Bauleong said.

The victim regained consciousness and struggled, but AJ immediately punched the victim on the face, knocking her unconscious, the detective stated.

Santos said it was AJ who first sexually assaulted the victim, followed by Camacho Jr. and Castro, Balueong said.

“Throughout the entire time, Santos claims he was keeping watch to alert the others should he see a vehicle heading their way,” Bauleong said.

AJ carried the victim, still unconscious at the time, down on the ground, outside an abandoned concrete structure few blocks north of the CYC store, the the detective added.

“On the following day, Santos [met] AJ at the Kagman Community Center basketball court where AJ threaten[ed] Santos not to ‘snitch’ on them, otherwise Santos was ‘going to get it,’ ” Bauleong said.
