The Department of Public Safety has yet to issue a statement on the incident.
The store’s fire alarm awakened the owners, a couple, who immediately put out the fire at about 2:50 a.m.
Serving the village since 1998, Kwik Trip is located near the Tanapag social hall and the still-to-be-opened Waft by the Sea restaurant.
The suspect or suspects burned the cigarette carton attached to the steel door that served as a cover from sunlight.
The main door’s plastic cover and other flammable materials easily caught fire.
The store owners immediately extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived.
Authorities are now probing the incident.
