Letter to the Editor: Variations: Status Woe (2)

The statement, “The CNMI owes us nothing” alone is very powerful and so true. In fact, I do not believe that it (CNMI) owes me anything and I’m a living and breathing U.S. citizen from these parts. I pay my taxes and I also contribute to the CNMI. Now, do I feel that it owes me something in return? No!

Additionally, I agree with the MV editor that the emotionally driven  approach taken by nonresidents is “misguided” and definitely not the way to go. For instance, what happens should the U.S. Congress decide to seek and/or consider the CNMI government’s recommendations? What then? Will advocates change their game plan and how do they intend to achieve that after all that’s been said and done? Moreover, the underlying RULE should be NEVER mix CONTROVERSY with EMOTIONS. The outcome can literally get ugly like what is currently occurring — where the CNMI is completely divided on this issue.
