Healthy dining at Dongchimi’s

Finally, one of my out-to-eat buddies remembered this restaurant which opened a month ago on Bougainvilla Street near the Garapan Fishing Base where an old windmill was located.

Dongchimi Restaurant, we learned, is a destination for health buffs and there are over 12 dishes on the everyday menu to choose from.

They serve a fusion of Chinese, Korean, Filipino and local dishes.

Lunch buffet is only $5.99 from Sunday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, barbeque is added to the regular lunch buffet menu for $8.99. Free tea comes with the buffet meal.

We noticed the wait staff were very busy because as soon as a table is cleared another group of diners come in.

Not really a health buff myself, I settled for the smaller fried chicken wings, tofu with seafood, and vegetable spring rolls. I munched on a couple of slices of toasted garlic bread before washing it down with soda.

My buddies filled their plates with everything from the buffet table and made second trips to refill on what they liked best. You can enjoy fresh vegetables with mayonnaise and make as many trips as you can at the salad bar.

Also available are Korean blackberry wine which they also call Viagra wine, five-flavor tea which is effective for liver and kidney,  sweet and icy sikhye juice which is healthy rice juice, and icy roast grain soup.

Dinner menu and barbeque starts from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

By the way, soda is not included in the lunch buffet. We ended up paying thrice the price for a can of soda because we misunderstood the answer of the wait staff whom we asked if it was included.

When you dine at Dongchimi’s for the 10th time, you get a bonus — one hour free spa or massage. A spacious parlor with comfortable massage chairs at the next room awaits customers who want to relax or get a massage.
