April sales for brand new cars up 42 percent

The Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association said sales for brand new cars  in April 2010 posted a 42.42 percent increase — 47 units compared to the 33 sold in April last year.

The brand new vehicles sold last month included 17 sedans, seven trucks, three vans and 20 SUVs.

Microl Corp. sold 20 brand new Toyota vehicles last month, followed by Joeten Motors which sold 16, and Triple “J,” 11.

Toyota is still the leading brand of choice among  consumers.

Nissan and Mazda followed with eight units sold each, Ford with four, Honda and Hyundai with three units each, and Kia with one.

From January to April, the three dealers  sold 229 brand new vehicles — 108 sedans, 37 trucks, seven vans and 77 sport utility vehicles.

The overall sales for the first four months of 2010 indicate a 78.91 percent increase compared to the 128 brand new cars sold for the same period in 2009.

The  dealers also sold  27 used cars last month, for a total of 101 used cars sold from January to April.

Triple “J” sold 10, Joeten Motors, nine, and Microl Corp., eight.

In January, CADA reported an 88.89 percent increase in sales for brand new cars; in February, a 103.57 percent increase; and in March, an 83.87 percent increase compared to the figures for the same period last year.

Some believe that this growth is fueled by the inauguration of new CNMI officials entitled to use taxpayer-paid vehicles.

Joeten Motors sells Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia. Microl Corp. is the local dealer of Toyota and Chevrolet while Triple “J” Motors distributes Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda.
