The Fitial administration, according to Sen. Juan M. Ayuyu, Ind.-Rota, is considering hiring nurses under a direct contact with the CNMI government.
“I recommended to the governor to hire directly our nurse from the central government,” the mayor said.
Eleven nurses and auxiliary staff at the Rota Health Center were hired through the Saipan Employment Agency & Services Inc.
As of press time yesterday, the nurses had yet to receive their salary since March.
SEAS declined to comment.
The CNMI government owes SEAS $200,000 for the employment of the nonresident nurses on Rota.
Variety learned that despite the delay in their salary, the nurses and all other personnel at the health center continue to perform their tasks.
“Our work has never been disrupted,” one of them said. “But I am worried about the nurses who have families in their home country.”
Mendiola praised the patience and professionalism of the nurses.
