Crime Stoppers program launches Create-A-Commercial contest

Those in high school are eligible to sign up for the high school category where the first place prize will be five Flip video camcorders.  Those who aren’t in high school can join the Open category where the first place winner will receive a cash prize.

To be eligible for the competition, one must be a CNMI resident, and all submissions must be in a DVD (in mpeg-2 format).  The commercial must be no longer than 30 seconds and there can only be one entry per group or person.

Commercials must include the following information: the crime stoppers phone number and website address, the fact that callers are anonymous, caller ID is never used, the tip line is open 24 hours, and that there is a cash reward for tips leading to an arrest that amounts to up to $1,000.

The winning commercial will be showed on television in the CNMI, and then will be brought to Canada for the international Crime Stoppers conference.

Police Officer Jason Tarkong, in a Crime Stoppers presentation at Marianas High School yesterday, said that the Crime Stoppers board is really looking forward into what the youth of the CNMI can create.  Accompanying  Tarkong in the Crime Stoppers presentation were board members Robert “Woody” Woodruff and Christina Smith.

The deadline for the 1st Annual Crime Stoppers Create-A-Commercial Contest is 5 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010.
