Big turnout for Family Fun Day

The fun- and balloon-filled event started at 9 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m. It served as a finale for the celebration of the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Awareness month, and Foster Care Month.

The staff at the face painting stalls had their hands full since almost all children wanted their faces painted.

Food and drinks were available at booths sponsored by different agencies.

Attractive prizes, including hampers full of goodies, were awarded to lucky winners in the  games, fashion show and other entertainment.

Children had a grand time getting on the huge trucks displayed by various agencies including the fire division, the American Red Cross and the Department of Public Health.

Agencies connected with DYS and child welfare programs in the CNMI distributed brochures and offered assistance and services.

These included the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, NMC-CREES, Head Start, the DPS car seat safety program, the DCCA children licensing program, the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, the Community Guidance Center, the WIC program, Cooking with Colors, the Food Stamp Program and the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

Maisie B. Tenorio, chairwoman of the coalition, said that the event gave them a chance to reach out to the community and create awareness about the services they offer.
