Marianas Eye chief executive officer Russ Quinn said the staff completed the training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, and automated external defibrillation, or AED, under Red Cross instructor Lucio Aldan.
Quinn said in his e-mail that the crucial training prepares the staff of the Marianas Eye Institute in lifesaving techniques and emergency equipment usage.
He said the annual training is part of the continuous program the Marianas Eye Institute provides to its staff.
Saying that their goal is to have the best trained technicians, Quinn said the Marianas Eye Institute has developed a Marianas Eye “University” — a training system for its staff that allows them to receive multiple nationally recognized certifications related to eye care.
Preparing for these certifications help the staff at the Marianas Eye Institute provide the best patient eye care in the region.
The institute is home to the CNMI’s only certified ophthalmic assistants and several of its staff members are currently preparing to take the American Board of Opticianry examination.
“Our mission, ‘Excellence with Love,’ starts with training local talent to learn skills that not only makes them excellent at their job, but that allows them to take the skills with them, anywhere they may go,” Quinn said.
The Red Cross has been providing CPR training to several companies.
The AED training is a new feature that Red Cross offers to help prepare responders to “restart a person’s heart.”
Quinn said the Marianas Eye Institute acquired AED training as part of its commitment to provide the highest level of care to their patients.
