Power outage on May 22

The power outage, which will start at 7:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m.,  is required for the safety of the linemen as they perform general maintenance on the electrical system.

The affected areas:

• 7:30 a.m.

Momentary Interruption: Load Transfer (approximately  15 minutes)

San Vicente (Roundhouse), Dandan Rd., portions of the Dandan Homestead to the Dandan Homestead (the former Domar Store)

• 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Dandan Rd (former Domar Store) to the Obyan Water Wells and Hawaiian Rock. Also from Airport Rd. (Adios sign) to the Isley Field Water Wells and SCADA Switch.

The Saipan international airport terminals will not be affected.

The electrical power will be momentarily de-energized in San Vicente Loop from the former Roundhouse location to the former Domar Store location in the Dandan Homestead.

This is required to isolate the Kiya 1 Second Partial circuit south of the Dandan baseball field to the Obyan area where the work is to be performed.

This process will be again repeated at 10:30 a.m. to re-energize the isolated areas.

Again, because of the extreme danger in working on energized lines, a power outage is necessary to ensure the line crews safety.

The maintenance work is part of an ongoing program that will involve the replacement of more defective pole hardware such as pole top pins, insulators, cross arms, insulators, guying, connectors, bolts and nuts on the second partial of the circuit.

In addition, one new airbrake switch will be installed near the lower Dandan Homestead area.

This will to allow the line crews the capability to isolate specific areas of the electrical grid to minimize inconvenience to the public and its customers when performing future repairs and maintenance to the system.

CUC apologizes for any inconvenience this power interruption may bring to the community and it promises  to work diligently to minimize future interruptions.
