Not adequate evidence against Rellanita Villagomez, says gov’t lawyer

Dismissal without prejudice means the prosecution can re-file the case against the defendant.

An arrest warrant was earlier issued for co-defendant Helen Dayawon Camacho, 51, who left for the Philippines on Aug.12, 2011.

In an interview with the Variety, Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing said the government moved for the dismissal of the case against Villagomez because the evidence was not adequate at this time.

Villagomez and Camacho were staffers at Freedom Air aviation services, according to court records.

Police said Freedom Air management found out after reviewing inbound and outbound manifest from Saipan to Tinian that there were discrepancies on some of the passenger manifests. Several manifests did not have tickets attached to them and the tickets that customers had purchased were voided.

Police said Camacho had admitted to Freedom Air station manager Dennis Cruz that the defendant had taken tickets that were sold to customers, but did not log them into the manifest.

Camacho voided the tickets and took the money, police said.

Camacho further told Cruz that she got the tickets from Villagomez, who was off-island at the time the incident was reported, police said.
