Iglesias accused of making advances on gov’t witness

Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig, who represents Iglesias, strongly objected to the testimony, saying it was not part of the discovery and was only presented by the government during yesterday’s jury trial.

Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo, who was presiding over the jury trial, allowed the witness to proceed, but also sustained Hartig’s other objections.

Assistant Public Defender Benjamin Petersburg also represents Iglesias, who is currently out on bail.

Assistant Attorney General Shelli Neal is prosecuting the case.

The witness testified Iglesias “giggled” when she confronted him.

When cross examined by defense counsel, the witness told Hartig that she told her daughter and a female police detective about Iglesias’ “advances.”

Iglesias was charged with sexually abusing a minor, which the defendant denied.

Govendo excused seven jurors yesterday afternoon, and may continue the witness’s testimony today.
