Yubo Qiu arrested for assault

Qiu is being held on charges of assault, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.

The victim suffered a bump on his forehead, police said.

The victim was reading a Chinese newspaper when Qiu suddenly approached the victim, and grabbed the newspaper from him.

The victim, who is also a Chinese national, told Qiu  that he was “no good,” police said.

Qiu the punched the victim’s forehead, police added.

When the victim again said that Qiu was “no good,” the defendant picked up a rock, threw it at the victim but missed.

After the victim told the defendant, for the third time, that he was “no good,” police said Qiu picked up a piece of 2×2 lumber, swung but missed the victim again.

The defendant then warned his victim that if he called for police assistance, Qiu would kill him. Qiu left on his bicycle but was arrested an hour later.

Camacho remanded Qiu to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the defendant’s initial  court appearance and bail hearing yesterday.

Assistant Attorney General Nicole Driscoll represented the government, while Assistant Public Defender Benjamin Petersburg was appointed as Qiu’s counsel.

Police officers met the victim by  Sampo Corp. across from the former Michigan garment factory in San Antonio.

The police report did not indicate if Qiu and his victim are employed.
