CHC lab undergoes expansion

“A new lab is going to be so welcome — you can’t imagine,” commented a hematology technician.

The lab’s expansion encompasses space previously occupied by the Family Care Clinic, which moved into the hospital’s newest wing along with the dialysis unit.

Current space in the lab is extremely limited and very expensive, sophisticated machines have precious little space as do employees and supplies that are stacked wherever possible.

The expanded lab will grow in size by some 40 percent and cost just $3,000.

“We’re using in-house staff for everything and the materials needed are minimal,” explained Babauta.

Laboratory technicians are not the only staff feeling happy about the change.

Variety dropped in at the spacious Family Care Clinic and found staff to be ecstatic about their new home.

“We’re grateful for the bright, spotless space that allows us to serve our patients faster and more efficiently,” said Allen Mijores, acting unit manager.
