Musical ‘Olympians’ need your help

Musical organizers for the London 2012 Olympics invited Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Concert Band to perform and have been working very hard to make the dream a reality ever since — but they need the community’s help.

For only $5 the public can purchase a ticket for a holiday fundraiser musical based on the music of the Disney movie ”Tangled.”

The production is a joint effort between the Manta Rays and Mt. Carmel’s Theatre Club and proceeds from the event will benefit both groups’ activities.

Dates for the musical include Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17 with a curtain time of     7 p.m. at the newly renovated Hibiscus Hall at the Fiesta Resort & Spa.

Advance tickets are available at Mt. Carmel’s business office, tel. no. 234-6184, and will be available at the door for each performance.

The child-friendly production is the perfect opportunity to take the family to a theatre show and show support for a great group of young people in their Olympic quest.

The Manta Rays have raised close to $100,000 of the approximately $270,000 needed to fund the Olympics performance for its 45 band members.

The band’s invitation came in response to its stellar performance during a 2009 band festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City and their previous Olympics performance at the 2008 Beijing games, where they achieved the distinction of being the first foreign band to play in the famous Tiananmen Square.
