In its recent special meeting, the SHEFA board headed by Joe Mafnas approved a motion presented by member Vina Saures based on SHEFA Administrator Henry Hofschneider’s recommendation to delegate the hearing authority to the committee chaired by John K. Tenorio.
In the past, a board member or the two consultants of SHEFA decided on the appeals.
The program no longer has consultants.
Hofschneider reported that some applicants for fall 2011 academic term have appealed his finding of their ineligibility.
These should be heard by the SHEFA board in accordance with its rules and regulations.
An appeal must be heard by the board and not by its chairman only, Hofschneider said.
Mafnas said there’s a need to revisit the process as there were appeals directly addressed to him.
“There’s now an appeals committee that will look into the appeals,” he added.
The committee will make recommendations to the full board regarding the disposition of an appeal.
