“Chicken Feathers & Garlic Skin” tells the story of a 25-year old girl from Wu Xi City in Jiang Shu province, China who boarded a plane for the first time to travel 2,000 miles and work in a garment factory in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas.

In the book, Wang revealed her “inspiring and enlightening tale of determination, disappointment, justice, and triumph, and the only known first-hand account and diary of a Saipan factory girl’s life.”

She candidly tells the story of the lives of the girls working behind the sewing machines and takes the readers on a trip right inside a garment factory.

The garment factories are now closed, the sewing machines are silent, the workers have moved on with their lives, but the tales live on.
