MHS aviation class aims high

Feria is a student of Marianas High School and belongs to a select group called the “aeronautical dolphins,” an enrichment class — the first for the Public School System and pioneered by the largest high school in the CNMI.

The class allows students to gain aviation experience and eventually guide them to a career as a pilot, aeronautics engineer or aviation expert.

Feria’s classmate Lean Teodoro is hoping to make it big after  high school and college. She and her class of 30 students are hoping to raise funds to purchase a flight simulator.

Ivan Sanarez admits that they are still “in the learning stage”  and are prone to “mistakes.” But he and his classmate vowed to excel.

“This is one of our first steps…and we will show you that we are the best,” a Sanarez said in a letter to Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan.

The aviation class on Friday participated in the Asia Pacific Academy of Sciences, Science Education, and Environmental Management conference at American Memorial Park.

The MHS class was the first and only high school organization that was present in this gathering of professionals and experts.

“Thank you for your support. We hope that we can get more support from organizations and hopefully be sponsored to help us visit the Andersen Air Force Base on Guam,” said student Jennycka Bery in her letter to the education commissioner.

Sablan has endorsed and strongly supported the class of  teacher John Raulerson.

“Thank you very much Dr. Rita Sablan. It means so much to us that you came. We did that presentation [at the conference] because we want to go to Guam to see the Air Force base there, and maybe meet the (top military officials there),” student Fatima Domingo said.
