Peleliu slips again on 11-9 loss vs. Red Men

The win improved the Red Men to a 7-3 record and placed them only one game behind Peleliu (8-2).

Payton Sakuma went 2-for-4 and struck a homerun and Otes Olkeriil went 3-for-4 with two runs to outrun Peleliu at the Dandan Ball Field on Sunday.

The Red Men thrived on a five-run fourth inning to grab a 10-3 lead and eked out one final run on Olkeriil’s single at the top of the sixth.

Peleliu scored its first three runs on Poland Masaharu’s triple and Mabel Ngirnemelas’ sacrifice fly but came empty in the next two innings. They narrowed to scores to 10-6 after Dominic Remeliik’s three-run homer but ended on a sloppy offense one inning later.

The Red Men allowed three more runs from Paul Ogomoro’s homerun and dodged a walkoff loss after Ben Duenas’ out at first base. Lefty Shiro and Sakuma each earned two runs while Red Iskawa, Luis Ngiraikelau, Highnes Asanuma, Ben Higgins, and Alex Sakisat added one apiece.

Aside from them, the Koror City Boys also trail Peleliu with seven wins and three losses.

Koror City Boys 8, Sufa 5

The City Boys remained on track following an 8-5 victory over team Sufa in Sunday’s first game.

Paul Camacho went 3-for-4 with three singles, one run, and an RBI and Dennis Cruz went 3-for-4 to drive Koror’s offense.

The City Boys didn’t pick up speed until Openg Celis’s two-run single in the top of the fourth.

Team Sufa scored off Ton Magofna’s homerun in the bottom of the third and held a one-run advantage until the fifth inning.

The City Boys finished off on two RBI from John Kentaro and Lee Sibetang, Celis’ single, and two runs from Cruz and Ben Villanueva.

Team Sufa is currently in the league’s bottom three with four wins and six losses.

Docomo 8, One Vision 5

One Vision flopped on a late-game charge and posted their ninth loss versus Docomo Pacific.

Docomo quickly pulled away in the sixth inning on run-scoring singles from Ken Kaipat and third baseman Lawrence Fleming. Bill Aguon hit a homerun to pound the last nail in One Vision’s coffin one inning later.

John Terlaje, Aguon, John Tomokane, Joe Lizama, Kaipat, and Fleming each scored one run. Jerry Ayuyu led the pack on two runs and one RBI.

One Vision tied the scores at 4-4 in the third inning but came empty until Phil Cepeda’s run in the bottom of the seventh.

IT&E 14, Toro 2

Team IT&E won by the largest margin this weekend after a blowout 14-2 victory over Toro.

Pepi Tenorio squeezed in three runs while Jess Omar, New Techur, and Grey Camacho scored two apiece. IT&E grabbed a 6-1 lead at the top of the third and delivered a four-run fifth inning before Gene Weaver and Techur’s game-ending RBI singles.

Lead-off batter Frankie Yoshida scored Toro’s first run in the first inning and eked out a second run from a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

Omar went 3-for-5 and nearly hit for the cycle with a single, double, and triple.
