Jones, Minor sisters stay ahead in 2011-12 jr. rankings

A new threat however — Thea Minor — may cost him the lead since her dominating performance in the 3rd Annual Tan Holdings Tennis Classic last month.

Minor gained 1,000 points from the Tan Holdings-sponsored event and now holds 1,500 to clinch the number two spot in the boys 18U pool.

Minor was allowed by the NMITA to compete in boys events since the DFS Junior Championships in May, where she lost to Jones in the 18U singles semifinals.

Minor took revenge in November surviving three sets to oust him in the finals of the same category.

Jones edged Minor in the men’s open division during week one of the Tan Holdings Classic. He gained 1,000 points from the DFS tournament for a 1,750 total.

Behind both junior netters are Daniel Park and Amami Sakano, who hold 1,050 and 900, respectively. Christian Miller (600), Angelo Jones (600), Jake Lee (500), Primo Po (500), and Clay McCullough-Stearns (250) complete the boys 18U’s top nine.

With Thea tackling male competition, Theecel Minor now rules the girls 18U division at 1,750 points. Thea trails her sister with 1,000 points, followed by Alina Ishikawa (750), Melody Johnson (600), Yumi Ito (600), Jodel Fernandez (500), Amy Arenovski (400), and Yuri Song (300).

Christopher Cajigan and Moris Villanueva share the lead in the boys 15U category with 1,500 each. Below them are Carl Dela Cruz (1,350), Seiya Eda (900), and Chris Park (750).

Mikayla Lopez, who claimed the girls 15U doubles title with Carol Lee last month, rules the girls 15U division at 2,000 points while Negahr Rastguiy and Emily Jones have 1,350 and 900, respectively.
