Akimaru shattered Kaito Yanai’s 2:29.34 mark in the 200m freestyle, timing in at two minutes and 28.04 seconds.
The Saipan Community School swimmer bested Grace Christian Academy’s Kosei Toda, who had 2:58.95 in the same event.
In the 100m backstroke, Akimaru broke Keith Ludwick’s 31-year-old record with one minute and 25.57 seconds. Ludwick had one minute and 26.08 seconds in October, 1980.
Again he defeated Toda, who had 1:38.25, and Jesse Leon Guerrero, who had 1:43.7.
Joining Kento were eight-year-old Lukas Kang and 12 year-old Angel Tan, who also busted records last weekend.
Kang, representing Garapan Elementary School, launched a new time in the boys 9U 50m butterfly event at 37.36 seconds. Ryuto Yanai had earlier posted 38.68.
SCS’ Lennosuke Suzuki trailed Kang with 48.16 seconds, followed by Naoki Kasai (1:03.4), Michael Villagomez (1:04.55), and Ichiro Borja (1:07.34).
Tan had only Angel De Jesus to beat with 34.39 seconds in the girls 12-13 50m butterfly event. She surpassed Amanda Johnson’s 34.48 seconds, which was recorded in March 28, 2004. De Jesus timed in at 37.27 seconds.
During two Saipan Swim Club-sanctioned meets in September 29 and October 6 this year, Akimaru also broke records in the boys 9-10 200m breaststroke (from 3:17.9 to 3:12.21), 50m freestyle (from 31.67 to 31.28), and 100m freestyle (from 1:09.34 to 1:08.35) events.
On Saturday, he also joined a mixed 200m medley relay and posted 3:01.32 with Ryosei Toda, Quintin Ramsey, and Ryu Tanzawa.
Kang was the fastest among 10 swimmers in the boys 9U 50m backstroke event with 41.83 seconds. Juhn Tenorio (1:00.71) and Kenshiro Yanai (1:03.8) came in at second and third place.
Tan finished with 1:27.75 to beat Saipan International School’s Liza Atalig 2:19.2) in the girls 10-13 100m breaststroke event.
