The event opens at the Kotari Shrine at the Sugar King Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, but the festival will start at 5 p.m. at the Paseo de Marianas.

The highlights of the main event will be performances such as a Kendo presentation, the Yosakoi dance that combines traditional Japanese movements with modern music, Bon dance or Bon Odori, a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors, Omikoshi or Japanese shrine craft performances on the street,  Gospel songs and other performances.

Last year, the community enjoyed a full day of activities during the Autumn Festival and mingled with over 70 visitors from the Katori Shrine group of Japan as well as different dance groups.
