The elected officers are Lawrence Camacho, president; Keolester Buenpacifico, vice president; Lauren Jardinero, secretary; Eldred Sanchez and Antonette Castro, senators.
Dyenina Diaz, student ambassador, served as the mistress of ceremonies. The entrance of the inductees was led by the dignitaries, outgoing officers and the incoming officers. Proa Music Society led the singing of the national anthem while the invocation was led by Pastor Eric Abragan.
NMC President Sharon Hart opened up the event with her welcoming remarks.
Finally, the investiture proclamation was conducted by the incoming officers of ASNMC.
The swearing-in was led by Hart. It was followed by the traditional Leadership Candle Lighting Ceremony and finally, the inaugural address of the new ASNMC president.
In the closing remarks made by Leo Pangelinan, the dean of student services, he thanked the officers and told Camacho, “Your heart is in the right place.”
“What motivated me (to run for president) were the students. A lot of times students come to me for help and I felt like I really could help them because I’ve been there and I have the experience,” said Camacho.
Jardinero, Castro and Buenpacifico said they wanted to give back to the community and make a difference. “Being in ASNMC makes me feel like I belong and I could make a difference even if it’s just a small one,” said Castro.
Buenpacifico and Camacho said they want to open up better communication between the students and the administration. They have three major goals. “One of our priorities is to establish a medium of communication. Technology flies at lightning speed nowadays and there’s many ways to gather information,” said Buenpacifico.
“Second is to ensure cohesive planning. Not just in between the ASNMC but also the student body and the NMC administration. I feel like I have the skills and the experience to make an effective plan to make sure that the organization does not break up and the plans are effective put into effect.”
Buenpacifico added, “Third is to improve the partnerships of ASNMC with other student organizations. We want to ensure meaningful and enriching relationships with our student organizations here in NMC.”
The student leaders are planning to work closely with the career center and the college community to ensure a better workforce and help cope with the changes about to come into the island.
“At the end of the day they are free to approach any of us,” said Camacho and Buenpacifico.
“Thank you for voting for us and supporting us,” said Jardinero. “We look forward to working with you and for you,” Buenpacifico added.
