Hi touch communications in a high tech era

The seminar was presented by Richard Brundage, a widely recognized international crisis communications expert, author of the book, “The Heart In Communicating,” former TV news anchor, producer and director.

Brundage was recently selected by the State Department to train new U.S. ambassadors and was the only crisis communicator in North America to be featured in the 60-minute television special, “Global Risk Management.”

More than 70 people attended the event. This included students and representatives from various government and private sector organizations.

There were also participants from Rota and Tinian who joined the seminar through video conference.

Brundage said crisis communications is “the demonstration of leadership.” In his seminar, he gave lectures on what “image” is and how to instill confidence in a 12-second sound bite. He talked about how to formulate a message in person, in print or in electronic media. He pointed out what your body language says about you and your organization. He discussed how to “humanize” your organization in a critical situation. He also gave techniques used by the pros about intensive group preparation and on-camera performance. He gave more than 50 tips on how to improve performance in any appearance.

His message extends far beyond responding to the media — it is “new millennium thinking” about how we communicate with each other.
