The unique Ayuyus on KagHS Student Council

At the top of the pyramid is the council president Joshua Jones a senior at KagHS. Jones enjoys playing baseball and was named a star athlete of the year. He played pitcher for Saipan’s baseball team in New Caledonia last August and bagged two gold medals and the right to say he “plays for the best baseball team in the Pacific.”

He now pitches for the KagHS baseball team.

He also enjoys working hard for the family, doing chores around  the house, going to the beach and hanging out with friends.

“As president I plan on helping all the students and teach them that character counts. We’d like to see more students will participate in school cleanups and community events.” said Jones.

The vice president is Klyde Camacho, a junior student. “I want to show the school what I can bring to the table by not only giving my ideas but listening to the other students’ ideas too,” he said.

Camacho enjoys making people smile even if he isn’t smiling.

He describes himself as the “funny guy or the class clown, so when you want to smile just check me,” he said.

“My focus right now would be the chewing of betelnut on campus, because I hate seeing people wipe the lime on the side of the buildings and spit everywhere.”

He added, “I want to help keep our campus nice and clean.”

The council secretary is  Vanity Borja a senior student.

Borja said science is her favorite subject and she is also involved in honors courses.

“I enjoy listening to music, traveling, hanging out with friends and just being a stay at home gal.  As secretary I plan on listening to the students and their ideas and combining them with mine.”

She said a “major issue that I would like to focus on would be teen pregnancy.”

After graduation she plans to join her sister in Arizona were she will be attending college and get a degree in nursing.

For the treasure’s position, the election result was a tie between Betty Kanai and John Camacho.  StuCo adviser Sharon San Nicholas said “we decided to not have a revote and to just have two positions for treasurer. So we also added    sergeant-at-arms.”

John Camacho, a senior, was named sergeant-at-arms and treasurer.

He is responsible for assuring that the other officers are on top of their game.

He is also the vice president for the National Honors Society and is currently taking six honors classes to aim for a spot in the top 10 and the top mathematician award when he graduates in 2012.

“After graduation, I’m not sure where I want to go to college, but I want to study in the medical field and become a nurse then work my way up to becoming a doctor,” he said.

His fellow treasurer is Betty Kanai also a senior at KagHS.

Betty went to elementary school in Palau then moved to Saipan, attended junior high at Chacha Ocean View before heading to KagHS.

“As treasurer I can help manage the money. When I graduate I want to attend the University of Guam and major in criminal law because it’s what interests me the most,” said Kanai.

The StuCo officers along with their advisers will hold a workshop on Saturday, Oct. 1. The workshop will provide the students with leadership skills, a mission and philosophy as well as lessons on character.

“I have a really good feeling that this group will really make a difference for the 2011-2012 school year,” said their adviser Sharon San Nicholas.
