Precinct 3 has most dogs registered, tagged

470 dogs were registered in Garapan, Chinatown, Gualo Rai and San Jose, even as the mayor’s office continues to register more dogs in other areas.

Yesterday, dog control program director Ray Lizama said registration is now being conducted at the fire station on Capital Hill.

The dog tagging will start from 9 a.m. and end on 4 p.m. until Oct. 14. The operation is closed during austerity Fridays.

In a report, Lizama said 366 dogs were registered in Precinct 1; 146, Precinct 2; 98, Precinct 4; and 85, Precinct 5.

From June 6 to Aug. 19, there were five dog bite cases reported: one  each in Susupe and Chalan Kanoa and three in Garapan.

During the same period, 245 dogs were eradicated.

The mayor’s office cited Section 165-10.1-435 of the regulation which states that “any dog or other animal declared to be a vicious animal may, at the discretion of the supervisor, [will] be humanely destroyed.”

It added, “Such humane destruction shall occur no earlier than 10 days following notice given to the owner of such animal of intention to destroy, or if a hearing is held, no earlier than 10 days after a decision has been issued in the same and after all rights to appeal have been exhausted.”

The mayor’s office was able to give 16 dogs for adoption.

The office also removed 530 carcasses from public roads.
