Angel Demapan
SENATE President Dennis James C. Mendiola, on behalf of the 24th Senate, on Monday congratulated former Rep. Angel A. Demapan, the new deputy assistant secretary for insular and international affairs of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
In his letter to Demapan, Mendiola described the appointment as historic, saying that it “marks a proud and significant milestone for the people of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands.”
He noted that Demapan is the first individual from the CNMI “to be entrusted with such a critical role,” and his selection “reflects not only his decades of public service but also the growing recognition of the importance of Pacific Island voices in federal policy-making.”
“Your understanding of the unique challenges and aspirations of the CNMI and other U.S. territories makes you exceptionally well-positioned to advance our collective interests at the national level. We are confident that your leadership will strengthen the relationship between the federal government and the insular areas, and we look forward to the positive impact your tenure will have on the people of the Pacific,” the Senate president told Demapan.
“Your appointment is a source of great pride for our Commonwealth, and we are certain you will serve with integrity, insight and unwavering commitment,” Mendiola added.
